The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Georgi Panayotov, visited Pakistan on September 15, 2021 during which he held a meeting with the Federal Minister of Defence of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Pervez Khattak.
During the meeting, the two Ministers discussed possibilities for further strengthening their bilateral cooperation in the field of defence, maintaining the established good dialogue between the countries in the field of security, training opportunities and military-technical cooperation, as well as development of cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.

The two dignitaries also exchanged views on the latest developments in Afghanistan and the challenges to stability in the region. Mr. Pervez Khattak informed the Bulgarian Minister of Defence of the positive and constructive role being played by Pakistan for ensuring peace and stability in Afghanistan, including by bringing the warring factions on table. He said that any peace process in Afghanistan has to be Afghan-led and Afghan-owned for it to be successful.

Minister Panayotov expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government for its assistance in the successful evacuation and transportation of the Afghan citizens to Bulgaria.
