The Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute and the Foreign Service Academy, Islamabad held a joint webinar on “Pakistan – Bulgaria: Bilateral Cooperation in Security, Economy and Energy” on November 10, 2022. The expert event aimed to provide a platform for discussion on topics of regional and international importance, thus outlining future prospects for cooperation.

Welcome to the participants at the beginning of the webinar was addressed by Mrs. Tanya Mihailova, Director of the Diplomatic Institute, and Ambassador Mazhar Javed, Director General of the Foreign Service Academy of Pakistan.

The panels of the event were focused on bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Pakistan, security challenges and current geopolitics, both in the Black Sea region and in South Asia, the current situation in Afghanistan, energy security, climate change, etc.

Speakers from Bulgarian side were Mr. Angel Orbetsov and Mr. Dragomir Zakov, Ambassadors for Special Assignments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Mr. Dimitar Ivanov, Senior Expert at the Institute, and from the Pakistani side – Ambassador Aizaz Ahmad Chaudry and Ambassador Mansur Ahmad Khan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan as well as Mr. Asif Iqbal of the Ministry of Finance of Pakistan.

In the closing session of the webinar, the Ambassadors of Bulgaria in Islamabad and Pakistan in Sofia addressed the speakers and guests, H.E. Ms. Irena Gancheva and H.E. Ms. Mariam Aftab, highly appreciated the expert exchange between the two countries and expressed readiness to assist in organizing future similar events.

The audience of the online event numbered over 60 people from both countries, including diplomats and representatives of government departments, representatives of the academic sector and students.
