In order to express solidarity with Kashmiri people and highlight illegal actions of India on 5th February 2019 by revocation of Article 370 of its Constitution and stripping Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K) of its Special Status and autonomy, the Embassy of Pakistan in Sofia organized an event on ‘Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir’ on 5 August 2022 in the Chancery premises.

The ceremony, which was presided by Ms. Mariam Madiha Aftab, Ambassador of Pakistan to Bulgaria, was attended by a cross-section of Pakistani community members from different walks of life. At the start of ceremony, messages of the President and Prime Minister were read out to the audience. It was followed by screening of a documentary on the historic background of the event, struggle of the Kashmiri people and the atrocities being perpetrated by the Indian forces.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Mariam Aftab, while giving a brief history of the day, highlighted the ongoing Indian atrocities in IIOJ&K. She said that the government of Pakistan would continue to provide all moral and legal support to the Kashmiri people till achievement of their inalienable rights. She stressed on the need to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the will of Kashmiri people and the relevant UN Resolutions. She also appealed to all community members and Pakistani students in Bulgaria to effectively play their role in disseminating the details of the Indian atrocities in IIOJ&K in their respective circles.

During the event, a one-minute silence for the martyrs of the Kashmir cause was also observed.
