In order to express solidarity with Kashmiri people and highlight continuous human rights violations by Indian forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the Embassy of Pakistan in Sofia organized an event on ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ at the Chancery.

The ceremony, which was presided over by Ms. Mariam Madiha Aftab, Ambassador of Pakistan to Bulgaria, was attended by a cross-section of Pakistani community members and Pakistani students studying in Sofia. At the start of the ceremony, messages of the President and the Prime Minister were read out to the audience. It was followed by a speech on the genesis of the Kashmir issue and struggle of Kashmiri people by a prominent community member. A documentary on the event was also screened during the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Mariam Aftab, while giving a brief history of the day, highlighted the on-going Indian atrocities in IIOJK. She said that the government of Pakistan would continue to provide all moral and legal support to the Kashmiri people till achievement of their inalienable right to self-determination. She stressed on the need to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the will of Kashmiri people and the relevant United Nation Security Council Resolutions. She also appealed to all community members and Pakistani students in Bulgaria to effectively advocate for the Kashmir cause.

At the end of ceremony, a candle-light vigil was also held for the martyrs of the Kashmir cause.
